Title: Mystery String Band
Location: 5426 N Gay Avenue, Portland OR
Start Time: 7:30
Date: 2012-02-15
End Time: 9:30
Flat Rock is on hiatus this Wednesday, but they’ve kindly arranged for another string band to take their place while they’re gone. However, when I asked the Flat Rock banjo player what their band name was, he responded with a name so ridiculous I had to question its legitimacy. When pressed, he said, “They’re out of town so now is my big chance to name them.” I gave him 5 minutes to come up with a better name, and what I got in return was so terrible I have wiped it from my memory, but I seem to recall that the word “daddies” was in it, which everyone knows should never, under any circumstances, be part of ANY band’s name. So I have christened them the Mystery String Band, and I hope that you will come out & see what they’re all about. I can guarantee you that they’ll be better than the names their friend was trying to stick them with.
Title: The Walk of Shame with Pippa Possible
Location: 5426 N Gay Avenue, Portland OR
Start Time: 8:00
Date: 2012-02-18
End Time: 11:00
The Walk of Shame is a night to bring your musical skeletons out of the closet & tell the world all about it. DJ Pippa Possible will be at the turntables as usual, but we’re inviting YOU to bring in some of your own Embarrassing Musical Moments from Your Past, whatever that might mean to you. Stuff you loved as a little kid or a teenager that horrifies you now? Stuff you loved that you don’t want to admit you still rock out to when it comes on the radio? Stuff you hope a prospective crush won’t notice when they’re flipping through your records? Stuff that your friends hate but that you will proclaim your devotion to from the highest mountaintop? You can bring up to 5 songs-vinyl or an iPod playlist are fine-and we’ll play as much as there’s time for & probably have a bunch of heated arguments in which the words “sellout”, “kids these days”, “irony” and “Debbie Gibson” will undoubtedly be in use.Bring us your awesome awfulness & your awful awesomeness-we want it all!
